Gmail Unveils AI Inbox: Enhancements with Gemini Technology

Google has launched a new feature called AI Inbox in Gmail, utilizing the Gemini model to analyze emails and generate summaries of key tasks and topics. This advancement signifies Gmail's transition into what is termed the "Gemini era".
The AI Inbox processes emails in the user's inbox and automatically creates a list of actions and important topics based on the context of the messages. The system identifies tasks and provides quick access to emails requiring attention. Each recommendation links to a specific email, allowing users to check its content and context.
Google emphasizes that these new tools are designed to alleviate email overload and simplify daily email management. The AI Inbox complements existing Gemini capabilities in Gmail, including automated summaries of lengthy email threads and assistance in composing emails.
The company highlights that the AI features in Gmail respect privacy requirements. Data from users' inboxes is not utilized for training core artificial intelligence models, and users can disable AI tools in the service settings. However, Google cautions that AI systems may make errors, advising users to verify the suggested actions.
Alongside the AI Inbox launch, Google has made several AI features based on Gemini available to all Gmail users, previously accessible only to paid Workspace subscribers. Notably, the Help Me Write tool allows users to create or edit emails based on text prompts, and AI Overviews automatically generate brief summaries of lengthy email threads without the need to scroll through the entire message history.
Additionally, Gemini can now assist in searching for information in the inbox, answer queries like "what is this email about?" or "what needs to be done?", and summarize individual messages without manual command activation. All these features are integrated directly into the Gmail interface and operate in the background.
However, advanced tools such as stylistic text editing, deep AI search across the inbox, and thematic summaries from multiple emails remain exclusive to Google Pro and Ultra subscribers.
The AI Inbox is being gradually rolled out and is currently in beta testing.
