Commemoration of Repression Victims in Odesa

On November 1st, Poland celebrates All Saints' Day, a time when cemeteries are illuminated by thousands of candles.

In Odesa, a ceremony was also held to light candles and lay flowers on the 6th kilometer of the Ovidiopol Road.

This event was dedicated to the memory of victims of mass political repression in the 1930s, during which thousands of lives were lost, including Poles.

The ceremony was attended by Odesa's Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, the Consul General of Poland in Odesa, Jacek Gocłowski, as well as representatives of the diaspora and Polish community organizations in the city.

The Mayor introduced the newly appointed consul to the history of this tragic site and the work carried out before the full-scale invasion to honor the memory of repression victims and document the crimes of the Soviet regime.

During the dialogue, it was noted that Poland is aware of this place and respects the memory shown by the people of Odesa.

Mr. Gocłowski mentioned that support and assistance for the realization of the project will be provided by the consulate, the diaspora, and Poland after Ukraine's victory.
