Digital Reconstruction of the Odessa Archaeological Museum

Researchers from the «Archaic» laboratory have unveiled a new 3D model of the Odessa Archaeological Museum, executing the project with numerous scans and photographs. The object was captured in its current state for future scientific endeavors. This was announced on their Facebook page.

During the project, the team conducted 70 scans and took about 1,500 photographs. One of the main challenges was the roof of the building, where shooting was complicated by restrictions on drone usage due to the war and the lack of nearby tall structures.

As a result, specialists decided to combine several methods. Part of the shots was taken directly from the roof, while special markers were placed on the ground to appear in frames from different angles, allowing the fragments to be stitched into a cohesive model. A total of 600 photos were used for the roof.

In addition to external scans, archaeologists also performed digital imaging of the museum's interior. The internal layout created is planned for the museum's internal purposes. The project involved six people, one scanner, and two cameras.

The 3D model captures the current state of the building, enabling ongoing monitoring of its technical condition, particularly in light of potential damage from military actions.
