Summer Planting in Odesa: New Floral Projects

Odesa's municipal greening specialists have begun planting summer flowers. This year's floral arrangements will feature salvia, geranium, begonia, petunia, ageratum, tagetes, and chlorophytum.

The first summer flowers have already been placed in parts of the Exchange Square and flowerbeds near the Primorsky District Administration, replacing the spring blooms. A total of 350 thousand summer flowers are planned to be planted this year.

According to the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrest», summer flowers will be planted in all city districts in places where spring flowers have already faded.

Today, 72 shrubs were also planted.
Perennial plants such as junipers, hibiscus, and broom are planted with a closed root system to ensure better adaptation to the urban environment.

These young plants have beautified the median strip on Heavenly Hundred Avenue and Prince Yaroslav the Wise Avenue.

All the flower seedlings (summer and spring) and plants for vertical gardening (100-150 hanging pots) are cultivated in greenhouses at the «Rose» section. Annually, around 1 million plants are grown here, including 200-250 thousand spring flowers, 250 thousand potted flowering plants, and about 500 thousand other seedlings.

Every year, greening specialists plant approximately 40 thousand perennials (chrysanthemums, miscanthus, yucca, hydrangeas, irises, and euonymus) that have been prepared in the enterprise's greenhouses.

From September, preparations for the next year's greenhouse planting begin. The «Rose» section spans 5 hectares and includes: 4,000 square meters of greenhouse complex, 2,000 square meters of hotbeds, and a utility yard. This operation is managed by 29 greening specialists and 3 engineering technicians.

Traditionally, the first spring flowers (daisies, violets, forget-me-nots) adorn Odesa in early April, followed later by summer flowers: salvias, petunias, and ageratums.

The Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrest» oversees over 547.71 hectares of land, including 16 parks, 79 squares, 7 boulevards, and 122 other green areas.
