In Odesa, the demolition of residential buildings affected by Russian drone strikes is underway.
Today, July 17, during an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee, a decision was made to assign the Department of Urban Development of the Odesa City Council as the contractor for emergency safety measures.
According to the technical report and the decision of the regional emergency commission, partial demolition of five buildings is proposed: four near the train station and one on Serednia Street. Two houses on Novoselskoho Street (one of which is partially damaged) and a private house on Vynogradna Street have been deemed irreparable.
“Their owners will be able to apply for compensation under the state program eRecovery and receive housing certificates for purchasing new homes,” said Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
Regarding the five partially destroyed buildings, the city government will provide support for their restoration. Since the onset of the full-scale war, a total of 3,232 damaged objects have been recorded in Odesa, including 1,295 residential buildings.
“All our actions are not just a technical response to the consequences of enemy attacks but a manifestation of responsibility to people who have lost their homes. The city government continues to seek resources and partners among state structures and international organizations to provide essential support. We are also mobilizing internal reserves: specialists, infrastructure, and volunteer initiatives to respond quickly and with dignity,” commented Hennadiy Trukhanov.
