Celebrating Ukraine's Independence: New Horizons

President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a speech at Independence Square, highlighting that this location symbolizes the freedom of our nation.

In his address on the occasion of Independence Day, he stated: “We are working towards building a Ukraine that has the strength and capacity to live in safety. So that our children and grandchildren can celebrate this day on their native land, under their flags, in peace and tranquility, with hope for a better future and gratitude to all who defended our homeland in this war for independence.”

Zelensky emphasized that this is worth living for. “This is what we stand for,” he added.

He also stressed that Ukraine will never again be subjected to the humiliation that the “Russian world” calls a “compromise.”

“We need a just peace. How our future looks depends solely on us. The world understands this and respects it. Ukraine is an equal partner,” the President noted.

According to him, he represented such a Ukraine in the United States last week.

“Today, both the USA and Europe agree: Ukraine has not yet won, but it certainly will not lose. Ukraine is fighting for its independence. It is a fighter, not a victim. Ukraine is ready for partnership and offers its support. We have the best army in Europe and advanced defense technologies,” Zelensky stated in his address.

He assured that Ukraine will achieve a sustainable peace.

“We will obtain it through strong security guarantees, so that no one in the world even thinks about attacking Ukraine. This is not just our goal, but what we wish to pass on to future generations: a strong, equal, European, and independent Ukraine,” the head of state concluded.

Let us remember, on August 24, Ukraine celebrates the 34th anniversary of its independence proclamation, which was formalized in an Act approved by the Supreme Council in 1991. This year, the national holiday is celebrated in the context of a full-scale war initiated by Russia against the Ukrainian people.
