Honoring Fallen Medical Workers: A Day of Remembrance

In the fight for human lives, nothing could stop them - only their hearts have ceased.

This was reported by the Ministry of Health.

On July 10, Ukraine observes its first Day of Remembrance for fallen medical workers. This initiative comes from the team behind the «Order of Saint Panteleimon» award. It was initiated this year to honor the memory of medical professionals who lost their lives during the full-scale war.

Medical workers at the front lines and in conflict zones who saved our soldiers, and those in the rear who worked amid alarms, in operating rooms without power, in shelters. They fought day and night for the lives of little and adult Ukrainians, but sadly, many lost their own lives. The number of such medical workers is in the hundreds.

According to the Order of Saint Panteleimon, during the three years of the war, Russia has killed at least 500 Ukrainian medical workers. This includes doctors, nurses, junior medical staff, and combat medics. They became targets of the enemy on the battlefield, in stabilization points, in operating rooms, in offices, on the streets, at home, and on their way to work.

To preserve the memory of each fallen medical worker, the Order of Saint Panteleimon is implementing the project «Light of Remembrance», aimed at honoring those who sacrificed their lives while fulfilling their professional duties. As part of this project, in collaboration with the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information about the deceased medical workers is being collected and systematized.

If you know of a fallen medical worker at the front or in the rear, in a civilian or military hospital, please send the information to the email address: medlib@library.gov.ua

Be sure to include in the subject line: «Light of Remembrance».

Today, July 10, at 14:00, a signal will sound in hospitals and medical institutions across Ukraine - the sound of a heart stopping. Following this, there will be a minute of silence. This is a sign of gratitude, respect, and mourning for the fallen medical workers.

Let us remember. Let us give thanks. Let us honor.

Eternal and bright memory to the fallen medical workers.
