A resident of the village of Pryamobalka in the Bolhrad district of the Odesa region was reluctant to go to the maternity hospital until rapid contractions began — she ended up giving birth with the assistance of an emergency medical team.
This was reported by the press service of the Emergency Medical Assistance Center.
“Upon arrival, it was clear that labor was already in progress, and transporting the patient to the hospital was not an option. The woman gave birth at home, right in front of her family, in simple rural conditions. Moreover, the situation was complicated by breech presentation (feet first). This is one of the riskiest scenarios in non-hospital settings,” said paramedic Tamara Dacheva.
The delivery took place inside the house. The newborn girl appeared with no signs of breathing. Her skin was cyanotic, and her heartbeat was weak. Resuscitation efforts for the newborn began.
The medical team performed airway clearance, bag-valve-mask ventilation, tactile stimulation, and oxygen therapy. After several critical minutes, the baby took her first breath, cried out, and her skin turned pink as her breathing resumed.
The mother and newborn girl were transported to the Artsyz Central District Hospital, and both are in stable condition.
