Healthcare System in Odesa: New Challenges and Solutions

Odesa has 33 municipal healthcare facilities that provide urgent, planned, rehabilitation, and palliative care to local residents, military personnel, and internally displaced persons.

In the context of war, achieving energy independence for healthcare facilities is a top priority.

All medical institutions are equipped with diesel and gasoline generators of various capacities in case of power outages. Currently, there are 152 generators in healthcare facilities, of which 63 are high-capacity generators. In the absence of centralized electricity supply, these high-capacity generators automatically activate in the city’s round-the-clock hospitals, ensuring the operation of medical equipment.

Seven healthcare facilities are equipped with solar power plants with energy storage devices.
There are 14 gas, diesel, and solid fuel boilers in hospitals and their structural subdivisions, enabling autonomous heating. Additionally, some hospitals are preparing to install modular boilers using alternative fuels as part of a memorandum with the World Health Organization in Ukraine, and works are ongoing to put a modular gas boiler into operation.

With financial support from UNICEF, artesian wells and water dispensers have been established in four city hospitals, ensuring independent water supply. Medical facilities are stocked with technical and drinking water.
