The state postal operator "Ukrposhta" plans to relaunch its mobile application with expanded capabilities by the end of this year.
The CEO, Igor Smilyansky, mentioned in an interview with Forbes Ukraine that the new app is one of the company's main priorities for 2025.
"We plan to launch the app by the end of the first half of the year. It will not only track packages but also include features for interacting with customs, estimating delivery dates, confirming documents, and viewing shipment and payment history," noted the head of "Ukrposhta".
The launch of the new "Ukrposhta" application was initially scheduled for 2024, but was postponed for various reasons. The old app has low ratings in the App Store and Google Play Market, mainly due to the lack of notifications regarding package status. The new app is expected to allow users to redirect packages to other branches, which currently can only be done via phone or at post offices.
Furthermore, Igor Smilyansky stated that about 1 billion UAH was invested in automation in 2024. "This amount includes guarantees for five years, and all funding is our own," added the postal operator's director.
It is worth noting that now over 90% of packages arrive on time. "I measure the effect of automation through social media. Previously, every post of mine received numerous comments about how poorly "Ukrposhta" delivered. In the last two months, there are almost none. This is the most honest indicator for me because it cannot be faked. We launched full automation and are currently refining the IT system so that clients can see the estimated delivery date even when sending their packages," concluded Igor Smilyansky.
Reminder: in February 2025, "Ukrposhta" fully automated its package sorting process. In January 2025, the government transferred shares of the First Investment Bank, previously owned by Russian oligarchs, to the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development with the subsequent transfer to "Ukrposhta". This way, the postal operator will be able to have its own banking institution. Igor Smilyansky has previously stated that after the establishment of its own bank, "Ukrposhta"'s capitalization will increase, allowing the construction of an Amazon in a Ukrainian format. It's also worth noting that last year "Ukrposhta" reported a revenue of 12.98 billion UAH, which is 8% higher than nearly 12 billion in 2023. However, considering the annual inflation rate of 14.6%, the real growth turned into a decline, with a loss of 387 million UAH by the end of 2024.
