Internet Fraud with Non-Existent Cars

A man in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi devised a fraudulent scheme by selling non-existent «VAZ» cars online. He requested money for fuel to deliver cars that he did not own. For his actions, the perpetrator faces imprisonment.

This was reported by the police.

Authorities discovered that a 30-year-old man, who had previously served over seven years for robbery and vehicle theft, was posting ads for «VAZ» cars on social media. Between September and October last year, three men from Odesa, Vinnytsia, and Kherson responded to his offers. He promised each buyer to deliver the car if they sent him money for fuel. After receiving the money, the scammer blocked their phone numbers and deleted previous messages.

He caused a total loss of 24,600 hryvnias to the victims.

During a sanctioned search of the suspect's residence, investigators seized mobile phones containing evidence of his unlawful activities, as well as bank cards.

As stated by the head of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi police department, Pavlo Bobchynskyi, investigators gathered enough evidence to charge the suspect with theft through deceit, specifically repeated fraud. Under part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the man faces up to three years of imprisonment.
