Assault on a Soldier in Odesa: Incident Details
The incident occurred on February 22 on Italian Boulevard in Odesa. Police have apprehended a man who inflicted bodily harm on a soldier.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a 28-year-old resident of the Bereziv district initiated a conflict with the military personnel during a document check.
The man sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the soldiers and fired several shots in his direction with, presumably, a traumatic weapon before fleeing. The victim was taken to a medical facility,
– police reported.
Authorities also mentioned that operatives from the local police unit detained the offender. He has been handed over to the SBU investigators.
Response from the TC
- The Odesa regional TC has already responded to the attack on the soldier, providing details. They stated that the 28-year-old resident of the Bereziv district refused to comply with the lawful requests of the military personnel to present military documentation.
- "He sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the soldiers, fired several shots in his direction with a weapon (presumably, traumatic), and then attempted to flee," – they stated.
- They added that the SBU has initiated criminal proceedings under Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code, "Interference with the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period." The TC emphasized that such actions are classified as particularly serious crimes that entail the harshest penalties. Currently, the materials have been sent to court to determine a preventive measure.
- The TC also stressed that violence against military personnel is unacceptable, and mobilization is the duty of every citizen.
