A shocking incident occurred in the Bereziv community where a man shot a neighbor's dog using an air rifle. The offender faces potential imprisonment.
The event took place in February when a local resident heard the dog whining and reported it to the police after discovering the lifeless body of the pet in the neighbor's yard.
The investigative team that arrived at the scene quickly determined that a 25-year-old man from a nearby village had come to visit friends, where they consumed alcoholic beverages. During the conversation, he learned from the owners that their mixed-breed dog was supposedly eating their chickens, prompting him to take action.
He retrieved an air rifle from his car and shot the dog, hitting it in the eye.
A veterinary forensic examination concluded that the dog died from brain swelling caused by the gunshot wound.
Within an hour, police located the suspect and confiscated the weapon, which was identified as a single-shot air rifle of 4.5 mm caliber.
After gathering sufficient evidence, the police informed the individual of the suspicion of cruelty to animals resulting in the death of the animal. According to Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, he faces up to three years of imprisonment.
The investigation continues under the supervision of the Bereziv District Prosecutor's Office.
