Tragedy at the Dniester: Fishermen Missing

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Dniester Lagoon near the village of Mykolaivka in the Odesa region: fishermen lost their lives. The police are conducting an investigation to clarify all circumstances.
According to reports from the regional emergency service, a message was received about an overturned boat and the bodies of two deceased individuals found in the reeds.
Subsequently, rescuers in cooperation with law enforcement retrieved the bodies of two men from the water. The search for the third is ongoing, including the use of drones.
Today, November 21, the incident was also commented on by the regional police department.
According to law enforcement, the dispatcher from the boat station reported the occurrence that took place yesterday, November 20.
Preliminary information suggests that three elderly men came to the lagoon to fish and rented a house for several days. On the morning of their departure, while paddling the boat to the dock, the fishermen ceased communication with the dispatcher, and later station workers discovered their boat and the bodies of two fishermen nearby the dock.
The search for the third man continues.
The police also report that the details of the incident have been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under part 1 of article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine marked as 'an accident'.
The bodies of the men will be sent for forensic examination to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
