Windows Update: New Quick Recovery Feature Announcement

Microsoft has announced that participants in the Windows Insider Beta Channel will soon see a new tab in the system settings that will make it easier to configure the Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) feature.

A new page will be added to the “System” menu under “Recovery”, providing access to crucial options in case of Windows boot issues. Users will be able to check if QMR is enabled, how often the system checks it, and set up automatic reboots to apply updates.

"The Quick Recovery feature is designed to help your device recover from common boot issues by applying fixes provided directly by Microsoft," the company stated in its blog.

The QMR feature was introduced in November 2024 to allow administrators to remotely restore Windows devices when faced with critical errors. QMR will automatically look for fixes for errors in the cloud and recover from common failures.

This feature is based on Startup Repair and utilizes a secure Windows recovery environment with internet access to find solutions through Windows Update.
